Farooq's Bio

Dr. Farooq Iqbal

About Me

I moved to Edmonton from Lethbridge in 2005 to attend the UofA, and since that time I have helped to take care of the MSA UofA, including almost 5 years as President. Additionally I have assisted many of Edmonton's Muslim institutions and helped to organize a multitude of quality programs to benefit people throughout the city. I am a newly-minted physician by training, and when I am not busy with work or volunteering my hobbies include Star Wars, LOTR, cats, and I'm always down for a good game of Settlers of Catan!

About AYA

It takes more than money and physical buildings to establish a strong community; we need to invest in PEOPLE! Our community has an abundance of young, talented and motivated people, but unfortunately they lack opportunities to get involved. AYA was established to give young people opportunities to get involved and serve the community. Through doing so, we hope to cultivate young people into well-balanced Muslim leaders for today and for the future inshAllah! By working with existing Mosques and institutions we hope to deliver quality programs throughout Edmonton and help establish a strong, united, and vibrant community inshAllah!

Favorite Ayah

My favorite ayah is "but perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not." [Qur'an 2:216]. This ayah shows that everything that happens to us, whether we perceive it to be good or bad, is from Allah(SWT) and is ALWAYS good for us even if we don't realize it at the time!
